Details:
Join Stetson University Associate Professor Luca Molnar for a contemporary art talk titled "For Whom a Flag Can Be," where she explores how modern artists reinterpret the American tradition of protest by challenging the meanings associated with the flag and its representations. Molnar will discuss significant works such as Faith Ringgold's "The People's Flag Show," Dread Scott's "What is the Proper Way to Display a U.S. Flag?" and David Hammons' "African-American Flag," all of which interrogate the complex symbolism of the U.S. flag. This presentation aligns with the exhibition "Our Flag in American Art: 1935-2026," emphasizing how minoritized artists respond to American protest practices and reimagine the concept of what a flag signifies and for whom it stands. Galleries open at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free for members and $10 for future members. Featured work includes Faith Ringgold's "Peoples Flag Show" from 1970.
