Independence Dam State Park (IDSP), in conjunction with the Friends of Independence Dam State Park (FOIDSP), is proud to announce its two-day historical event, "A Walk-Through History." This immersive, family-friendly event will tell the story of America through the years, beginning in the 1700s, as part of the nationwide America 250 celebration leading up to the nation's 250th anniversary in 2026.
The event will take place on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Sunday, August 9, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at the Clevenger Shelter House Area within Independence Dam State Park 27722 County Road 424, Defiance, OH.
"A Walk-Through History" offers a unique glimpse into the past, featuring live reenactors representing pioneer days, early militia and park history. Highlights of the event include:
* Encampments with period costumes.
* Demonstrations of the Art of Spinning, Weaving, Basket making, Cooking, Trapping, Candle Dipping, and Copper smithing.
* Exciting Rifle and Black Powder Cannon Demonstrations.
* Live Music featuring Plymouth Fife & Drum Corp., Hammered Dulcimers and a Balladeer.
* A Wreath Laying Ceremony at the 1812 Memorial with the Daughters of 1812.
* Food Trucks will be on site.
"This event is a wonderful opportunity for the community to connect with the rich history of our region and our nation," said Don Gurzynski, park manager of IDSP. "We invite everyone to come, step back in time, and experience history come alive."
Admission is free and open to the public. Parking will be available at the Marina with shuttles to safely transport attendees to the event area in the park.
