Details:
Scott County Iowa Genealogical Society and the Richardson-Sloane Special Collections Center of the Davenport Public Library invite you to their monthly meeting.
We invite you to learn about Davenport School Museum with us. The Davenport School Museum is that it serves as a “resource for the learning and preservation of the history of the Davenport Community Schools District through the acquisition of historical and culturally significant objects and records”. The museum has records dating back to 1858 when the district was created. Visitors can do genealogy research, research alumni and staff, and look at school curriculum materials. Artifacts available are sports memorabilia, Pre-World War I German teaching materials, World’s Fair books, silver Kuhnen Medals given to outstanding students, yearbooks, newsletters, newspapers, and much more. Items from schools that have been torn down have been rescued and are on display. Glass cases throughout the lobby and the upper floors display many of their treasures.
The museum is located at 1702 Main Street on the first floor of the J.B. Young Opportunity Center. Our hours are 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. on Mondays and 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, open on most holidays other than the major ones. They invite you to visit this unique museum, one of only two school district museums in the country.
