Graphic Resistance: Seven Decades of California Posters for Peace & Justice

Details:

Protest posters have long been used to mobilize for social change. In California, with its history of diverse cultures and progressive movements, artists have produced some of the most creative and impactful posters known today. “Graphic Resistance” features protest posters produced in California over seven decades, from the 1950s to the present. The exhibition highlights local to international issues and events, such as war, climate, labor, racism, immigration, homophobia, patriarchy, and homelessness. And while these posters chronicle many events in California that have been largely forgotten or overlooked, they continue to be relevant today. “Graphic Resistance” demonstrates how artists in California continue to be at the forefront of struggles for social justice, using the creative power of poster art to educate, organize, and inspire people to take action.
