Description
Take your surface design to the next level in this hands-on decorating and demonstration class led by Renee Meyer, lifelong potter and studio owner from Dickinson, Texas. This class focuses on decorative glazing techniques used specifically for Raku-fired pottery.
Renee will demonstrate how she decorates her work using Mayco Raku Glazes and Stroke & Coat® glazes, including her technique for piping glaze to create raised line work, planning patterns, and filling in areas with bold color. She will also discuss layering, glaze consistency, and how decorative choices respond during the Raku firing process.
This class is two sessions on the same day. The first Session will be glazing from 10am - 12pm. The second Session will be Raku Firing from 4pm - 8pm.
IMPORTANT:
If you plan to attend this class, please bring TWO small/medium sized bisqueware to glaze and raku fire. All members are guaranteed have at least ONE of their pieces fired in this class. If members still need pieces fired by 8pm, we will schedule a second firing at a later date.
The Art Center does not offer refunds or class transfers unless the Art Center cancels this class.

Renee Meyer
Renee Meyer is a lifelong potter, educator, and owner of The Ceramic and Pottery Center in Dickinson, Texas. For more than 30 years, she has shared her passion for clay by teaching pottery, ceramics, glass fusing, and Precious Metal Clay to students of all ages. An accredited instructor in Hadar’s Precious Metal Clay, Renee believes creativity grows through exploration and is passionate about helping others discover the joy of making something with their own hands.
Her love of clay began long before she ever stepped into a pottery studio. Summers spent at her grandparents’ farm in Missouri, where she spent countless hours making mud pies, and a kindergarten pinch pot sparked a fascination that never faded. After moving to Texas as a child, she continued working with clay dug from the creek behind her home, unknowingly beginning a lifelong journey in ceramics.
After studying art throughout high school and college, Renee dedicated herself to exploring the endless possibilities of clay. Over the years, she has developed a distinctive style centered on wheel-thrown and altered pottery, blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative surface techniques and a willingness to continually experiment.
