Celebrate Goodman75 Events May Through October

Celebrate 75 Years of Goodman with a series of free community events honoring the history, architecture, and spirit of one of Montgomery County’s most iconic neighborhoods. Hosted by the Glenmont Forest Neighbors Civic Association (GFNCA) , this anniversary celebration features art workshops, walking tours, music, storytelling, and family-friendly activities throughout the fall season. Goodman 75th Anniversary Event Schedule: Thursday, June 12: Tiny Houses Art Workshop Time: 1 to 4pm Create miniature “Tiny Houses” inspired by Goodman homes in this hands-on workshop led by artist Marcie Wolf Hubbard. Participants will use cardboard and found materials to build their own creations. Location: Wheaton Recreation Center – Activity Room B Saturday, September 19 Walking Tour: Hammond Wood/Connecticut-Viers Mill Area Time TBD Explore the history and architecture of the Hammond Wood/Connecticut-Viers Mill neighborhood, featuring approximately 58 Goodman homes. Coordinated by Pam Schaeffer, realtor and Goodman resident. Friday, September 25 Mid Century 50’s-Style Sock Hop Dance Party Time TBD Enjoy an evening of live music featuring Rock-A-Sonics, dancing, and vintage fun. Guests are encouraged to dress in their favorite 1950s attire. Location: Wheaton American Legion Saturdays, September 26 & October 3 Tiny Houses Art Workshops Time: 12 to 5pm Join artist Marcie Wolf Hubbard for additional Tiny Houses workshops using encaustic (wax-based) paints and mixed media techniques. Location: Wheaton Recreation Center – Activity Room B Saturday, October 10 Resident Oral Histories Time: 1 to 3pm Residents will share stories, photographs, and memories celebrating community life in Goodman homes and neighborhoods. Location: Wheaton Recreation Center – Social Hall Saturday, October 17 GFNCA Block Party Celebration Time TBD Celebrate 75 years of GFNCA and Goodman history with art workshops, exhibitions, family activities, bounce houses, games, nonprofit resources, and more.
