When veteran newscaster Howard Beale (Peter Finch) learns he’s being fired because the network believes his age is negatively impacting ratings, he announces he will kill himself on his final broadcast. In a surprising turn of events, Howard’s announcement leads to a spike in ratings which attracts the attention of an enterprising programming executive (Faye Dunaway). Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2026 with a new restoration, Network is one of the finest American satires exploring the media, corporatization, and the fetishization of spectacle.
