One of the most acclaimed plays in the American theatrical canon, The Crucible is an exciting drama about the Puritan purge of witchcraft in old Salem. This is a gripping and timely parable of contemporary society, as well as a studied historical tale. The story focuses upon a John Proctor, his wife, and a young servant-girl who maliciously causes the wife’s arrest for witchcraft. Proctor brings the girl to court to admit the lie – and the monstrous course of bigotry and deceit is terrifyingly depicted. Instead of saving his wife, he finds himself also accused of witchcraft and ultimately condemned along with a host of others.
Athens Community Theatre Mainstage Series includes multigenerational productions, dramatic classics, and celebrated musicals, in our Sue E. Trotter Black Box Theater. Prices for ACT tickets range from $15 to $25. Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets early, as ACT shows tend to sell out on, or before, show dates.
