Get Behind The Mule, hailed as "the tribute band that should play more often" in Style Weekly's Best of 2025, was formed in 2024 by vocalist and saxophonist Roger Carroll and bassist Adam Hopkins to celebrate the 75th birthday of America's greatest living singer/songwriter, Tom Waits. The band includes members of amminal, Miramar, Out Of Your Head Records, Curlew, Bio Ritmo, and The Orthotonics.
Hopkins presented concerts of Waits' music for years in Baltimore with the band White Lodge, and adapted the arrangements for Roger Carroll and a cast of Richmond's finest improvisers, including drummers Pippin Barnett and Scott Clark, Marlysse Simmons playing both piano and accordion, guitarists Gary Kalar and Stevie Ray, and staple members of the Bio Ritmo horn section John Lilley on saxophones, Bob Miller on trumpet, and Toby Whitaker on trombone.
The repertoire spans Waits' entire career to date, and this show will be the second performance of Get Behind The Mule at Révéler. The June 2025 performance was a smash hit.
