An acclaimed Richmond-based vocalist leads an all-star ensemble on an eclectic musical journey through justice and defiance/triumph and endurance, spanning several genres of music brought together with a soul/jazz-inspired spirit.
“Where on Earth did she come from?” wrote Lee Berk, then-president of Berklee College of Music, in an email to the Voice Department Chair after Alisa Miles’ first solo main stage performance in the fall of her third semester. Later that school year, she received Berklee’s Billboard Magazine scholarship and, after graduating from Berklee magna cum laude, established herself as a talented and well-respected vocalist in Boston and on stages around the world.
A Sunday night Jazz Workshop favorite, Alisa was born and raised in Richmond, and has the wide variety of musical tastes one would expect from a GenXer who grew up singing musical theater and listening to her mama and daddy's records, WRVA, Q94, EZ104.7, and, of course, MTV. She made her community performing debut at June Jubilee in the 80s and her Révelér debut 40-something years later, after settling back into the area. Prior to her return, Alisa was primarily a musical theater performer with an almost 20-year career.
The powerhouse quintet includes Mike Hawkins (bass), Dr. Weldon Hill (piano), Karl Tietze (drums), and fellow Berklee-alum Dave Davidson (guitar).
