Helping individuals choose the birth control method that works for them! Following the training, participants can request to receive the materials discussed for use in their practice. Materials include posters for clinics and offices, education grids for patient discussions, and patient education cards for handouts to clients. All materials are commercial-free and provided at no cost to training participants. Presenters: Melanie Riley, RN, MSN Director, Clinical Programs, WV Perinatal Partnership Mary Beth Stewart, RN, BSN Director, Outreach Education, WV Perinatal Partnership Annie White-Barb, BA, RN Director, Community Health Programs, WV Perinatal Partnership Objectives: By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to: Identify ways to establish trust and rapport with clients using communication techniques and a consistent message. Demonstrate ways to initiate conversations about contraception with any client presenting to the facility. List resources for information about different methods of contraception and myths about birth control. Demonstrate methods for assisting women to learn about birth control using a shared decision-making model. Identify ways to interact with the reluctant client. Develop a plan to establish a contraceptive friendly facility. Trainings are appropriate for clinical and non-clinical staff, as using the same reassuring and non-judgmental language is imperative to build rapport and allow free flow of information.
