Details:
Reception & Loon Presentation: Saturday, June 20 | 2–5 PM with Vermont Center for Ecostudies loon biologists: Eric Hanson and Eloise GirardExhibition: June 11 - 21 | Thu - Sun | Noon - 4PM In 2027, the Vermont Center for Ecostudies will celebrate a remarkable conservation milestone: the 50th anniversary of the Vermont Loon Conservation Project. Fifty years ago, the future of the Common Loon in Vermont was precarious. With only seven nesting pairs and increasing pressures on lake ecosystems, the species was listed as endangered in the state in 1987. Today—thanks to sustained conservation efforts and the dedication of hundreds of volunteers—more than 115 nesting pairs return to Vermont’s waters each spring. It is one of the state’s most inspiring wildlife recovery stories, and one we are eager to honor, celebrate, and share. This June, we invite you to join us for The Call of the Loon, a Celebration of Art and Conservation, a special art exhibit featuring more than 20 local artists, inspired by loons. As we celebrate this milestone, we are also looking ahead. Loons in Vermont continue to face ongoing and emerging challenges—from habitat pressures to changing environmental conditions. If this exhibit resonates with you, we invite you to consider supporting the future of loon conservation. Every contribution helps ensure that loons remain a vibrant part of Vermont’s lakes for generations to come. We hope you’ll join us to experience the art, reflect on this shared success, and be part of what comes next.
