Details:
Join Jennifer Stone, PhD, CCC-SLP as she teaches us how picture books work and what are the best ways use them. Any adult (parents, caregivers, teachers, etc.) who wants to learn more about picture books and how they work is welcome to register. We hope to provide a fun and engaging space to learn how to increase critical literacy for ourselves and the children we read with. As a group, we will read a picture book and then discuss theoretical frameworks that can be used for analysis. Then well choose a different lens and read the book again to see what we discover! Dr. Stone will draw upon multiple sources including Poetry Unbound, Five in a Row, and modern pedagogical texts including Media Literacy for Young Children: Teaching Beyond the Screen Time Debates. This will be an interactive workshop, and patrons are invited to share feelings, observations, ideas, and ask questions. We welcome you all for a night of learning and sharing!
