The Pennsylvania State Parks, including Kings Gap, Pine Grove Furnace, and Little Buffalo State Parks, are managed by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR). The DCNR's mission is to conserve and sustain Pennsylvania's natural resources for present and future generations' use and enjoyment. These state parks serve as living outdoor classrooms, offering opportunities for healthful outdoor recreation and environmental education. They focus on preserving natural, scenic, aesthetic, and historical values, while promoting stewardship of natural resources. Activities include hiking, picnicking, fishing, boating, hunting, and educational programs tailored for various age groups, including school children and teachers. Kings Gap Environmental Education Center, specifically, is dedicated to providing environmental education and interpretive programs, utilizing its mountainous terrain and extensive forests. Pine Grove Furnace State Park is noted for its historical significance as a former iron furnace community and its location along the Appalachian Trail. Little Buffalo State Park combines recreational opportunities with historical features like a restored grist mill and a covered bridge.
