Details:
Kurinuki, meaning "hollowing out" or "carving out," is a traditional Japanese method of hand-building ceramics, where forms are crafted by gradually hollowing out solid blocks of clay. Whether you’re a beginner or know your way around clay, you will learn the fundamentals of Kurinuki, from preparing clay to shaping and carving techniques. The Kurinuki aesthetic walks the line between being made by human hands and looking like it’s been picked from nature. From creating functional vessels to expressive sculptural pieces, this two-part workshop encourages creativity and experimentation, bridging the gap between tradition and contemporary artistry. This course will have two sessions: the first session will focus on the creation of your artworks while the second session will focus on glazing the works you’ve created!
This course will be taught on two consecutive Saturdays: July 11& July 18, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
