The clothing and textiles in this exhibit offer a glimpse into the lives of the people who wore, made, repaired, and treasured them. From a child’s first shoes to a formal gown, from school uniforms to handmade quilts, these objects reveal how generations of Waterbury residents expressed identity, marked important milestones, and navigated everyday life.
Textiles are among the most personal artifacts preserved in museum collections. They carry traces of work, celebration, family traditions, and changing fashions. Some were worn only on special occasions, while others accompanied their owners through the routines of daily life. Together, they connect us to the experiences of those who came before us and remind us that history is not only found in major events, but also in the fabric of ordinary lives.

This exhibit, curated by the Waterbury Historical Society with items from their collection, is on display from July 13 to mid-September. It is located in the Steele Community Room at the Waterbury Municipal Offices and open Monday to Friday 8:30am-4:30pm.
