Details:
Get ready to dig in—literally! In this hands-on program, young geologists will explore the fascinating layers beneath our feet. Kids will discover how soil is made up of different layers, each with its own texture, color, and purpose.
Through an engaging and edible demonstration, participants will build their own “soil profile” using tasty, sweet ingredients to represent topsoil, subsoil, bedrock, and more. As they layer their treat, they’ll learn why each layer of soil plays an important role in our environment. This program is a perfect blend of science and snack time—because learning about the ground beneath us is even better when you can spoon it up!
NOTE: Candy with nuts will be part of this program. If those with nut allergies attend, their participation will be limited to observation.
This program is intended for those heading into Grades 2-5. Located in the Children's Program Room.
If your child needs a special accommodation, please contact juliab@lowermaclib.org ahead of time and we would be more than happy to assist!
