Join us for a combined celebration of history and community at the America 250 Heritage Day, featuring "Threads Through Time," where you can explore historical textiles, including an embroidered Pickering Family quilt and a WWI memorial flag. Third-graders from Heritage Elementary will showcase a paper quilt, and visitors can contribute their names to an America 250 quilt for a Bicentennial Time Capsule, set to be opened in 2076. Enjoy a model train display from The Big Roadshow and take part in various activities.
On July 4, America turns 250, and we invite you to the America 250 Picnic and Independence Day Concert at the site of America’s first presidential library. Experience a day filled with nostalgic fun, including a picnic or food from local food trucks, an annual concert by the Toledo Concert Band featuring the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, and deeply discounted admission of $2.50 to tour the Hayes Home and museum. There will be games, crafts, and historical talks throughout the day. The museum will be open for self-guided tours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with Hayes Home tours beginning at 9:30 a.m. Food trucks will include popular local options, and at noon, the USS Spiegel Grove Association will dedicate a new exhibit area. Don’t miss the exhilarating Independence Day Concert from 2 to 3:30 p.m., featuring the "1812 Overture" with cannon fire. Admission is free, with wheelchair access available via the rear lift.
