This 1780 farmhouse was built for the daughter of Eleazar Wheelock, founder of Dartmouth College. Daniel Webster lived there as a student in 1800; Henry Fowle Durant was born there in 1822 and grew up to found Wellesley College. Alice Van Leer Carrick wrote about the cottage and was an antique expert living there in the early 20th century.
