Details:
Join Doug Baulos for a *Marbling Paper Make & Take* workshop on Saturday, June 20, 2026, with two session times available: 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM and 1:30 - 3:30 PM. This immersive workshop is suitable for all skill levels, requiring no prior experience, and is limited to 12 participants per session, all for a fee of $30, which includes all materials.
Participants will explore the art of marbling through traditional Western techniques and the meditative practice of Japanese suminagashi. Under Doug's guidance, attendees will learn the complete marbling process, from preparing the vat and mixing paints to pulling beautiful prints on paper and fabric. The workshop emphasizes awareness of natural textures and patterns, discussing sustainable practices and the benefits of recreating these inspirations in art as a form of meditative practice.
Utilizing Alabama-sourced materials, participants will explore natural dyes and regional resources, creating 2–4 original 8" x 10" marbled pieces. To safely transport their artwork home, attendees are encouraged to bring 8" x 10" pieces of cardboard.
