“A Photobook Gallery: The Ensley Childhood Project” is a non-linear timeline of the historic Ensley neighborhood by way of homemade family photos, archived videos, and written narratives. The exhibition hopes to give insight into the history and culture of the Ensley community as well as the Black childhood experience. A reception for the subjects of the featured photographs and the project’s curator, Timothy Quarshie, will take place on Friday, May 15, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Fourth Floor Gallery. “A Photobook Gallery: The Ensley Childhood Project” is made possible in part by a grant from the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
