Details:
Foundations of Freedom: Understanding the US Constitution, by Dr. Ann Little, is the final program of Loveland Historical Society's 250/150/50 celebration. Why did the US have to fight a bloody civil war to end slavery in the nineteenth century, when the founders might have ended it with the 1787 Constitution? Why was the Constitution immediately amended by the first Congress to add a Bill of Rights? We will explore 1780s and 1790s political debates and cultural and technological developments that shaped the US Constitution and the first years of the Republic.
