This hands-on class introduces the foundational techniques of cabinet making and gives you the skills you need to confidently design and build cabinets of all kinds—from simple workshop storage to fine furniture like armoires and built-ins.
We’ll cover the principles of solid cabinet design that have been used by woodworkers for centuries, focusing on strength, accuracy, and repeatable methods. Students will learn how to properly measure, cut, assemble, and square cabinet parts while gaining familiarity with common woodworking tools and shop workflows.
What you’ll learn:
Core cabinet design principles used in traditional and modern cabinetry
How to accurately measure, mark, and cut cabinet components
Techniques for building strong, square cabinet boxes
Proper use of common woodworking tools used in cabinet making
How to assemble and clamp a cabinet for strength and alignment
Tips for planning and scaling cabinet designs for future projects
During class, each student will build a 14” wide × 20” high × 5” deep cabinet from start to finish, reinforcing the techniques as they’re learned and leaving with a finished piece to take home. This class is ideal for beginners or anyone looking to strengthen their woodworking fundamentals before tackling larger projects.
