Please join us in Belton on the evening of July 17, 2026.
Hosted by local groups within Bell, Coryell, and Williamson Counties, John Lewis Day of Action | Central Texas is the second annual rally and march through Downtown Belton in support of voting rights for all. Good Trouble Lives On!
We’ll gather at the Bell County Courthouse and march about a half mile through Downtown Belton to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, a historic Black church and the oldest church in Bell County.
We’ll assemble around 6 p.m. and begin marching at 6:30. Attendees who don’t wish to walk may head directly to Mt. Zion UMC (218 N. Alexander St., Belton, TX) to meet the group.

Why the John Lewis Day of Action is so important today
The fight to protect voting rights never ends, and right now, we’re witnessing a Jim-Crow-era effort from politicians and their billionaire friends to restrict our freedoms, silence our voices, and consolidate power.
From unlawful meddling in election processes to the Supreme Court’s recent gutting of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, the disenfranchisement of minority voters today across the South, especially Black voters, is blatant and severe.
But in America, we choose our leaders and representatives. We will decide our future. The same spirit that fueled Selma, Montgomery, and the March on Washington lives on in our unified action.
Six years after the passing of Congressman Lewis, we're organizing an event in our community to carry the torch, continue the legacy of John Lewis, and pass it forward to future generations. Join us!
**Please note:**
A core principle behind John Lewis Day of Action | Central Texas is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
