Details:
Co-hosted with the Jeudevine Memorial Library, the Galaxy Bookshop launches Hardwick writer Brett Stanciu’s new novel, Call it Madness, Tuesday, June 30th, at 7 p.m. in the library’s Parker Ladd Community Room.
Brett Stanciu reflects on her new novel: “In my third book, the novel Call It Madness, the millennial heroine, Avah Lavoie, believes her life has reached a dull dead-end. Then, unexpectedly, her estranged mother phones with news of her great-grandfather’s death. Avah sets out in her Toyota Matrix for an inherited ramshackle Vermont house. She’s fiercely determined to understand how her life was shaped by buried family secrets: a sawmill accident, a mother who overdosed, a missing father. This third book digs at the thorniness of life while also reveling in the world’s serendipitous beauty.”
Brett Stanciu is the author of Hidden View and Unstitched, a work of non-fiction. Recipient of 2025 and 2019 Vermont Arts Council Creation Grants and a 2024 Fellowship to the Vermont Studio Center for the Arts, Stanciu lives in Hardwick, Vermont, in a century-old house built for granite workers and surrounded by lilacs.
