Marjorie Kramer exhibits a selection of work from 50 years of painting, at the Front Gallery at 6 Barre Street in Montpelier, Vermont, opening Friday, July 3rd from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Come and meet the artist.
Kramer’s paintings draw on a vitality or ‘spirit resonance’ palpable to the viewer that comes from working directly from life.
She will show landscapes, flowers, portraits and still lives.
Ms. Kramer started her artistic life in New York City. She earned her BFA at Cooper Union and was a founding student of the New York Studio School. She moved to Vermont in her early 30s where she raised a family and continued to paint what was important to her.
Some highlights from the show include a portrait from many years ago of the painter Lois Dodd (they traded portraits), a majestic wide summer landscape done near Kramer’s Vermont home which could be coupled with a winter landscape that could only be Vermont with its bright February raking light, and intimate still lives that show the meaningful in nature’s everyday acts.
There will be an art talk by Sam Thurston on the history of artist-run galleries and associations in America on Sunday, July 26 at 4 PM.
Marjorie Kramer, Paintings - Then and Now runs through August 2nd.
The Front Gallery is open on Fridays from 4 to 7 and on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 to 5. A visit to the Gallery outside of those hours may be arranged by calling 802-744-6859.
