As part of the America 250 celebration, the Main Gallery Exhibition at the Augusta University Guard House Museum welcomes visitors to explore a piece of Augusta’s role in the founding and early growth of the United States.
This exhibition focuses upon the birth of the United States of America followed by a pivotal visit from George Washington himself in 1791. On this visit, the forefather and first president of our nation decided upon Augusta as the locale for the U.S. Arsenal. What follows is the story of how Augusta grew and developed into a military and educational powerhouse, home to Augusta University, Fort Eisenhower and Army Cyber Command Headquarters.
Free and open to the public 9am-5pm Monday-Friday, this ongoing exhibition connects Augusta’s Revolutionary roots to its lasting impact as a center of military and education, making it a meaningful stop during America 250 in Augusta celebration.
