Resilience and Resistance

The Kennedy Museum of Art in Athens, Ohio, is currently featuring two compelling exhibitions that explore the intersection of art, activism, and craftsmanship. "Resilience and Resistance" presents 23 selected artworks that engage with themes of activism, drawing from historical and contemporary issues including Civil Rights, the Vietnam War protests, and racial and gender inequities, with notable pieces like Käthe Kollwitz’s "Outbreak." This exhibition is curated by KMA student interns Luiza de Araujo Caetano and Luca Gee, and supported by the Ohio Arts Council. Concurrently, "Waves of Influence" highlights transformative works from iconic printmakers such as David Hockney, Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Rauschenberg, and Frank Stella, showcasing their innovative contributions to print techniques. Additionally, the upcoming "Material Matters" exhibition, running from April 10, 2026, to March 21, 2027, will be created by students from Ohio University’s Museum Studies Program, examining how materials convey cultural narratives and preserve community histories. Both exhibitions are free to the public, with gallery hours from Tuesday to Friday and on weekends, while donations are welcomed to support the museum's programming.
