Living Color: Photography by Jill French

On exhibit on our Circulation Area Wall from August 3rd thru August 29th. Statement from the artist:This photo collection explores the depth of colors found in the natural world. These images of water, plants, rocks, and ice have been enhanced and crafted to create alternate views of otherwise ordinary pictures. Color saturation, vibrance, warmth, and tint have been adjusted, along with shadows and highlights. The original colors inherent to the photographs were kept; no imaginary colors were introduced. Modifying photos can feel like a fun adventure. Surprising colors often emerge during editing—even ones that were invisible to the naked eye when the picture was taken! It’s almost as if nature holds secret hues and tones buried inside, just waiting to be revealed, and poised to shift from normal to extraordinary. All of the images in this exhibit were shot and edited using an iPhone. With today’s amazing smartphones, anyone can now easily learn how to take and revise photos. Playfully experimenting with pictures is an enjoyable and engaging way to explore creativity—and maybe even transform plain photographs into beautiful art.
