Featuring a lively lineup of informal performances by the Houston Saxophone Quartet, these concerts provide audiences a unique opportunity to experience live chamber music up close at their local library. Don't miss your chance to catch these spirited concerts and feel the music!
ABOUT THE PERFORMERS: The HOUSTON SAXOPHONE QUARTET (HSQ) was formed in 1987 to stimulate public interest in and gain wider acceptance of saxophone quartet music as an American art form through concerts, recitals, workshops, and through the commissioning of new works for saxophone quartet. The HSQ has performed in malls, libraries, parks, public schools, universities, retirement homes, and hospitals. In addition, the HSQ has performed for the American Heart Association, the American Juvenile Diabetes Association, the Mayor’s Showcase on Aging, the Houston Symphony’s “Joy of Music” concerts, as well as many private functions such as weddings, receptions, dinners, service clubs, and charity events. The HSQ was featured with the Houston Symphonic Band (one of Houston’s finest community bands) performing Bill Holcombe’s Jazz Concerto for Sax Quartet and Band. The HSQ has served as the music selection committee (saxophone ensemble music) for the University Interscholastic League. The HSQ presented a clinic on “How to Coach Good Saxophone Chamber Music” at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention and performed at the Texas Bandmaster’s Association.
