Sam's Gap to Hogback Ridge Shelter

Join us for this fun out-and-back hike on the Appalachian Trail (AT) in Marshall near the NC/TN border to the Hogback Ridge shelter and picnic area, where we'll stop and have something to eat and drink before we descend the mountain. The hike follows the ridgeline of Peter Cove Mountain, and offers a few long-range views. The hike is 5 miles and moderately strenuous with some steep and lengthy inclines and declines and 1,158 feet of elevation gain. Plan for approximately 4-5 hours, including travel to and from trailhead.
