Details:
Join the Hemlock Stream Health Hike with the Hemlock Restoration Initiative on Thursday, July 9, from 5 to 7 PM at the North Carolina Arboretum. This evening hike along Bent Creek offers a chance to explore an HRI Hemlock Conservation Area while learning about the crucial role of eastern hemlocks in southern Appalachian stream habitats. Participants will discover how hemlocks shade cold headwaters, stabilize stream banks, and provide essential habitats for aquatic life, along with the threats to these trees and ongoing conservation efforts.
The hike will cover a relatively flat, 2-mile out-and-back route on easy trails and paved walkways. It's free for Arboretum members, with a $25 per car gate fee for non-members. Should the weather be poor, the hike will be rescheduled to July 15. Dress appropriately for outdoor conditions and prepare for a full evening outside. To register or for questions, please contact adulteducation@ncarboretum.org. Don’t forget to check social media for updates and details on other educational programs!
