250 Exhibit: Bicentennial 1976

Details:

The Arlington Historical Museum presents the 250 Exhibit, a dual showcase commemorating over 250 years of local history. The first part, "Bicentennial 1976," reflects on the 200th anniversary of the United States, celebrating with parades, festivals, and an array of patriotic memorabilia that brought history into everyday life. This segment invites visitors to consider how the Bicentennial influenced public memory and how the upcoming 250th anniversary aims for a more inclusive future. The second part, "Who Decides? Governing Arlington Through Time," explores the evolution of Arlington's governance, detailing the shifts in leadership from its origins as part of the District of Columbia to the current county board system. Through narratives of civic engagement and community action, this exhibit underscores the ongoing importance of representation and power. Both displays are open for free on Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM and Sundays from 1 PM to 4 PM, with "Bicentennial 1976" located in the museum foyer and "Who Decides?" on the second floor.
