Kids Can Crochet: Chain Stitch & Single Crochet Your Way to Creativity Unlock your child's creativity in this fun, hands-on introductory crochet class designed specifically for beginners aged 7 and up! In these simple, 1.5 hour sessions, young makers will master the absolute fundamentals of crochet, building fine motor skills and patience while creating a project they can proudly show off. This is what kids need to start making all of the critters and stuffies that are so popular! Led by experienced instructor Kellie Adamson who understands how kids learn, this class transforms yarn and hooks into a magical crafting adventure. She will also be assisted by 16-year-old crochet extraordinaire Calvin! This should be a fun class for kids to get inspired, learn, and develop a community! Class Details & Schedule Duration: Two 1.5 hour sessions Class Size: Small group settings for personalized, step-by-step guidance. Prerequisites: None! This class is designed for beginners What will they learn: The Magic Slip Knot: The very first step to getting yarn onto the hook securely. The Foundation Chain (ch) : The fundamental building block of almost every crochet project. Kids will learn how to hold their hook, manage yarn tension, and pull loops through smoothly. The Single Crochet Stitch (sc) : The easiest and most versatile foundational stitch. Students will practice inserting the hook, doing a "yarn over," and pulling through loops to create rows of beautiful fabric. Finishing Off: How to securely tie off their yarn so their hard work never unravels. Best Tool Sizes & Materials for Kids Standard crochet threads or thin, dark yarns can be incredibly frustrating for small hands to hold and see. To ensure frustration-free learning, we ask that each child brings the following: The Best Yarn Type: Medium Worsted Weight (Size 4) or Bulky Weight (Size 5) Acrylic yarn. Acrylic is smooth, doesn't split easily, and has a gentle stretch that is highly forgiving for tight tension. The Best Yarn Color: Bright, light solid colors (such as neon orange, vibrant green, or sky blue) . Dark colors like black, navy, or deep purple make it nearly impossible for kids to see the "V" shapes of their stitches. The Best Hook Size: choose the hook that is mentioned on the yarn your student chooses. Our staff can help determine this! By practicing their new chain and single crochet stitches, every student will complete a colorful, custom-length bookmark!
