J-Talks Presents: “The Forgotten World War” by Derek Baxter (In-Person)

Details:

Join us for a discussion with author Derek Baxter on his new book “The Forgotten World War: Exploring the Secret History of the American Revolution, from Spain to India and Back Again.”
In the book, Baxter recounts that the war was vast, fought across four continents. France, Spain, the Dutch, the Oneida Indian nation, enslaved and free people of color, and the Mysore Kingdom in India all contributed to the American victory. Baxter not only hit the archives but also traveled in person to many of the places where the war was fought, meeting local experts and descendants of America’s long-ago allies who shared stories about their nations’ contributions.
He will also explore the story of Jewish merchants on the Dutch island of Sint Eustatius in the Caribbean, who were instrumental in arming Washington’s army in the early years of the war.
As the United States celebrates its 250th birthday, the book invites audiences to reconsider independence not as isolation, but as interdependence from the very beginning. A book sale and signing will take place after the presentation. Light refreshments will be served. Ages 16+
Fee: Complimentary, however registration is required. Donations to the J are appreciated.
