Details:
Join award-winning author and historian James L. Nelson as he recounts the pivotal role played by Benedict Arnold during the American Revolution in his talk, "Benedict Arnold’s Navy: How America’s Greatest Traitor Won the War for Independence." In 1775, George Washington and the Continental Congress sought to engage Canada in the fight for independence, but by 1776, their efforts had faltered. Amidst turmoil, Arnold commanded a small fleet on Lake Champlain that became crucial in defending the Continental Army from imminent disaster. Nelson, a Maine native and seasoned maritime writer, shares the remarkable story of this naval battle that ultimately contributed to American victory. This program, offered in partnership with the Androscoggin Historical Society, will be available both in-person and virtually, with registration required for virtual attendance.
