Tuesday, July 14th at 9:30 am visitors will learn the history behind the dinosaur tracks in Wistariahurst’s driveway. Guests will also get to lightly handle some additional fossils from our collection.
Then head over to the Dino Foot Print Site, Rt. 5, Holyoke, MA at 10:15 am for a guided tour with Fred Venne, Director of Education at the Beneski Museum of Natural History (directions).
Did you know that dinosaur tracks are Massachusetts’ official state fossil?
That’s right—paleontologists believe these remarkable prints were left by some of the earliest known dinosaurs, ranging from small plant-eaters to large meat-eaters up to 20 feet long.
Explore Wistariahurst’s grounds and learn how Victorian elites displayed dinosaur tracks as garden art.
Join Beneski Museum of Natural History’s Fred Venne for a special exploration of nearly 800 trace fossils and sedimentary structures preserved at this extraordinary Holyoke Dinosaur Footprints site.
