Details:
Did you know Alvin, Texas had a strong connection to professional wrestling history back in the day?
Before giant arenas and television contracts took over the sport, wrestling was woven into the culture of towns all across Texas. Wrestlers traveled city to city putting on shows for packed crowds, and names tied to legendary eras like The Iron Claw crossed paths with Alvin’s own Alfred “The Coon” Froberg.
ALVIN — Alfred “Coon” Froberg was known around Southeast Texas as a rough, wild, dirty fighter inside the wrestling ring. He threw chairs, fought with attitude, and became one of the most talked-about wrestling villains in the region.
But outside the ring?
People who knew him described him as one of the kindest gentlemen they had ever met.
Froberg wrestled long before the modern WWE era and became a local legend not only through wrestling, but through Froberg’s Farm and the giving spirit of the Froberg family. Friends and lifelong Alvin residents remembered him as a man who loved people, loved Alvin, and never forgot where he came from.
That history matters to us.
That’s why Garcia’s Auto Detailing has decided to help bring wrestling back to Alvin, Texas.
We’re not trying to copy the past. We’re trying to celebrate it.
And what better way to do it than with a wrestling promoter from Alvin himself... a man who has been doing this for decades and knows the Alvin families from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s.
On June 13th at 7 PM, you will witness history as Wild Southern Wrestling officially commences its first matches at Garcia’s Auto Detailing.
This first night of wrestling will be held in memory of Alfred “The Coon” Froberg as we celebrate Alvin’s place in Texas wrestling history.
Mr. Mike Upton is coming out of retirement for this event, and Garcia’s Auto Detailing is looking to put on one hell of a memorial and wrestling show for the community.
If you’re not familiar with Mr. Froberg’s wrestling career, next time you visit Froberg’s Farm before June 13th, make sure to stop by the wrestling wall and learn more about Alvin’s beloved farming family and their place in wrestling history.
