The objectives of Alton Main Street are to: - Unite traditions with new ideas in order to create a sense of place by building on the strengths of our community, such as our rich history, natural resources and creative entrepreneurs - Create an inviting atmosphere through cohesive beautification and place-making efforts while encouraging a strong historic preservation ethic - Enhance the business environment through targeted efforts to stimulate economic vitality while garnering appreciation for our locally-owned shops & restaurants - Forge a positive image and strong identity for the district through coordinated advertising, retail promotions, and special events. - Organize interactive experiences which encourage citizen stewardship of our historic district - Strengthen existing alliances and create new partnerships in order to leverage new and existing resources and build consensus towards unified growth
