Details:
Join us for an engaging public astronomy event titled "Illuminating the 'Emptiness' of Space with Radio Beacons," featuring a lecture by postdoctoral fellow Stella Ocker. This event will explore the mysterious voids between stars and how cosmic beacons like pulsars and fast radio bursts help us uncover the invisible structures of the universe. The lecture, lasting 30 minutes, will delve into the role of diffuse ionized gas, or plasma, in the cosmos and discuss the exciting prospects of upcoming surveys from Caltech aimed at enhancing our understanding of galaxy evolution.
Following the presentation, there will be a 90-minute telescope-aided stargazing session, complemented by a Q&A panel consisting of various astrophysicists ready to answer your questions about astronomy and space science. Attendees can participate in-person or tune in via YouTube Live, making this event accessible to all—no reservations required. For more details, including the link to the livestream and directions to Caltech, visit our webpage: outreach.astro.caltech.edu/.
