**The Declaration's Force: A 4-Week Summer School Course**
Join us for a dynamic 4-week summer course led by Nicholas Friend, a renegade Americophile English Cultural Historian, celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, adopted on July 4, 1776. This program, running on Wednesdays from June 24 to July 15, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., offers an in-depth exploration of the Declaration’s historical roots, eloquent language, and profound influence on art, literature, and culture both in America and around the world.
Over four sessions, participants will delve into critical themes, including:
- **June 24:** The philosophical foundations of American self-determination and key influences such as John Locke and Tom Paine.
- **July 1:** The text of the Declaration itself, its concepts of equality and unalienable rights, and its impact on the Constitution.
- **July 8:** The American Renaissance writers who embodied the Declaration's spirit of liberty, shaping a distinct national identity.
- **July 15:** The artistic and architectural responses to the Declaration, showcasing figures like John Trumbull and the Hudson River School.
Admission is by donation, with a recommended contribution of $35 per person per session, or $100 for all four sessions. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. Join us for this unique opportunity to re-examine a pivotal document that changed the course of history and continues to inspire cultural expression today.
