Join us for two remarkable art exhibitions celebrating local culture and history in San Antonio.
The **Parman Gallery Special Exhibit**, hosted at Parman Library (20735 Wilderness Oak), honors Juneteenth through the artworks of local artists. Featuring selections from Dr. D.L. Grant's private collection, the exhibit showcases folk-inspired oil paintings on canvas by regional artists, including John Coleman and Glen Frank Franklin Sr. This collection highlights themes of everyday life, tradition, storytelling, and local artistic expression, making art more accessible to the community. The exhibit reflects on history and culture, commemorating Juneteenth and offering a unique opportunity for all ages to engage with these vital artistic contributions.
At the **Central Library**, visit **¡EN VIVO desde SALUTÉ!** (600 Soledad), an exhibition premiering on April 25 and running through June 6, which celebrates the iconic Saluté International Bar. Curated by Bonnie Cisneros and in collaboration with Azeneth G. Dominguez, this exhibition documents the rich history of the venue known for its pivotal role in showcasing Tejano Conjunto music and contemporary Chicano art from 1987 to 2012. Featuring performances and artwork by a diverse array of artists, along with archival materials, this event preserves the memory of a beloved cultural space in San Antonio's nightlife.
Both exhibitions are designed for all ages and provide a valuable platform for reflecting on and celebrating the vibrant heritage of our community. For more information, please contact Barbara Kwiatkowski at Parman Library or Sarah De La Rosa at Central Library.
